The philosophy and definition of leadership can be described in a number of ways. Everyone has the ability to and should tailor their definition of leadership to themselves and their situations while keeping an open mind for new expansions and lessons in how to describe leadership. This allows for an accurate depiction and expression of leadership while staying flexible to not limit oneself in a narrow focus of qualities.
To me, a vital part of leadership is having confidence. I feel this confidence has to go past confidence in your own abilities, although this is important, but also to have confidence in your followers as well. Confidence in them will build them up and encourage them to work to the best of their ability, which in turn helps the group work cohesively as a whole. Having confidence allows a leader to be selfless in submitting to others when necessary if it is for the benefit of the group they are leading.
